As England sleeps in 2011, we’re staying busy working on new material for the debut album release later in the year. We’re Wide-Awake and full of inspiration.

Along with about 40 existing tracks, there is a constant flow of new material being created, which we’ll be showcasing via our YouTube page, and some of it exclusively via our Travelling Jaw Facebook page.

We were delighted with the response to Storm EP, it exceeded are expectations.  Now we’re going to be working hard to get the debut album recorded and released for 2011, as well as  a multimedia monolith to accompany the release.   All will be revealed  in good time.   We’re also going to try and add some extra fire power to the background machine for maximum impact! it’s a minefield out-there…

Is it really 2011? where’s my hoverboard… instead we can probably look forward to yet more chaos and destruction, war, and worldwide meltdown.   But thankfully some good music to go along with it! It is indeed a ‘new dawn rising’…

Super-charged winds, Hurricane warnings in Warrington [seriously], proceeded to bash this little island into submission following the release of our ‘Storm EP’ – we did give you plenty of advance notice, well ahead of the official Met Office warnings.

If Nostradamus were a band full of rummans, he would be ‘the 66′.

Straight off the back of this storm, comes another!

The 66 will be headlining the main pumpyard stage inside the Manchester Printworks complex at 10pm, on Friday November 19th – THAT’s next week!  Here’s a bit about the festival in a far more coherent way then we could ever tell you…

The Forever Manchester Music Festival at The Printworks”

Five arenas will take part in what will be a very memorable event namely Hard Rock Cafe, Opus, Henry J Beans, Old Orleans and Waxy O’Connor’s. Additionally The Printworks Pumpyard will act as the main stage for the festival allowing The Printworks’ 100,000 weekend customers to experience the event as they pass by.

The Forever Manchester Music Festival will take place over three days from the 19th of November to the 21st of November.

The festival will:
• Showcase 60 new bands, solo acts and acoustic artists from across the UK
• See some very special guest appearances at the venues showing their support for the cause
• Provide some great food and drink offers for festival attendees
• Be completely FREE for all!*

So… there you have it.  Another free chance to catch ‘the 66′ in 2010.

STORM EP REVIEW

The opening title track is a nice slice of dirty rock’n’roll with thunderous guitars. There is more of a Doors-inspired blues feel to ‘Red Dog’, a killer track best played loud through a decent set of cans. Third track ‘Hidden Glove’ is a slice of 60′s mod-inspired psychedelia akin to The Creation.

The band’s full diversity is evident on ‘Break of Dawn’; it’s a classic and my favourite track on the EP with a vocal that reminded me of The Verve at their very best. I’m not sure even with that praise that I have done it justice. Hell, it’s one of the best tunes I have heard this year!

We wanted a few things for our Storm EP launch party; it had to be free, and it had to be somewhere we actually enjoyed going, with good people.   Delighted to say that is ‘ALL SORTED’ and we can now announce the details.

On Saturday November 6th we’ll be heading down to the Ducie Bridge on Corporation Street to celebrate the birth of our brand new EP, with our good friends from Manchester Radio Online and many more! It seems right as well, they’ve shown us a lot of support over the last couple of years.

A little about STORM EP…

A few months back, while working on next years debut album, we decided we wanted to get something else out into the earwaves this year.    It’s now been a fair break since our first release Vibe, even longer since we recorded it, and we wanted something fresh for the masses to listen too.   Things have evolved somewhat since the first release.

The EP features 5 brand new tracks:

Storm ‘a’ Comin

Red Dog Man

The Hidden Glove

Death Sex (working title!)

Money Men

The majority of the tracks were written acoustically, took to the room, or created in the room together.  A few come from the ‘Bee – back catalogue of Bee riffs and songs’ so they’ve been crafted over a long period of time, finally ready for consumption.

Regarding influences and songwriting for the Storm.  You can count the blues, oil spills, fat corporate grave robbers, impending revelations, hidden secrets, and astral horizons.

The magic of working with Outlier Records is the freedom.  There are many influences and ideas bubbling under our sound; and they were more than happy to let us exorcise these demons, while still trying to cope with the amount of material being pumped out for the debut album!

Working with some top bods at SSR, the majority of the EP was recorded at the legendary ‘Spirit Studios’ in an ‘all-night’ session, with dubs being added in the Einstein studio downstairs in the weeks after.

We’re really looking forward to letting you hear what we’ve been plotting.  Hope you can join us for our first official launch party

The cover was designed by Ben from Citizen studios. His previous work includes Apple, Mute, Universal Records, BBC, and MAPS’ (we can create) mercury music nominated album

THE VENUE – THE DUCIE BRIDGE

So, it was a bit of a different set-up. The Snake jumped on bass guitar and he left his keyboard back in the lab for a blues induced set! it also gave us chance to test the new songs from our new Storm EP (out late sep / early oct – there’s the plug!)

We took the stage fuelled by Ducie Bridge lager and Rimmers birthday whisky canteen, resulting in a blues whirlwind of a show!

Red Dog Man is ironically about Harman… He is the RED DOG MASTER, on a red dog mission (in Newquay)

Firefly… originally we weren’t going to play it. but in a quick jam just before the gig we fucked about with it, improvised and decided to throw it in!

This is the last 8 minutes (of 15min) mainly improvised, as the 66 blues spirit took over!

We’ve been mad busy as of late; recording tracks for the debut album and preparing to record the 5 track (Hidden Glove) EP which we’ll be releasing in the coming months as a sweetener for the full scale Album launch 2011.

A massive thanks to the organisers; sound engineers, lighting, roadies, and everyone involved.  We’ve had the privilege of playing some pretty big stages in our short life-span; it was excellent to see our hometown aiming high and providing a great location and stage for the bands to show their stuff.

 The excellent Mudkiss fanzine was in attendance, reviewing the full Saturday event which includes video footage and a review of each band on the day.  We’ve included our video and review below; but would encourage you to check out the whole event for the big picture.  Spread the fucking love!

 REVIEW

Headlining are The 66 who appear on stage through a huge cloud of blue lit smoke, with a distinct retro style and an attitude akin to that of Tom Meighan/Ian Brown, they kick off with the psych infused ‘Bordello’. “Let me hear your beautiful tones Warrington” requests front man Daniel Rimmer and we collectively chant back ‘The Hidden Glove’. By the time they strike into ‘City of Culture’ even the litter pickers have stopped to take note. Arrogantly confident the band end the set in a euphoric yellow smoke cloud of hand clapping and thundering drums with the utterly tremendous ‘Firefly’   Their performance is enthralling, and definitely worthy of a much bigger stage, we’ll be watching them with much interest.
